School board members in King County founded KCDA Purchasing in 1938. The purpose of this nonprofit association is to create volume purchasing, fulfill bid law requirements, manage centralized receiving and distribution and offer single-source purchasing for school supplies, furniture, equipment and services requested by its members.
KCDA operates under the same laws and regulations that apply to the individual school districts. School boards in King County elect members of their boards to serve on the KCDA Board of Directors. This board establishes the policies of the organization and selects its manager. KCDA’s Executive Director is responsible for hiring additional staff, carrying out the day-to-day operations, and meeting the objectives and policies of the board.
KCDA’s sole purpose is to serve its members by providing services and products at competitive prices while fulfilling all bid law requirements.
Who We Serve KCDA has grown to include virtually all of the 295 public school districts in Washington with associate members in Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Idaho, Montana and Wisconsin. Membership is divided into two categories:
Owners of KCDA All public school districts in the state of Washington.
Associate Members Public schools outside Washington State, public agencies, independent schools and colleges. There is no initial investment required to become a member of KCDA, all operating costs are covered by a service fee for each purchase. These service fees are included in the price of each item.
