How KCDA Can Save You Money

Paper

As anticipated, the paper industry has announced a pricing increase on selected paper. We expect to see these increases effect KCDA pricing mid April.

This could mean as much as a 6% increase or $1.50 per case on 8-1/2" x11" white copy paper.

Other grades will see increases in the range of 3.5-6.5% including:

  • Colored opaque text and cover

  • White and colored Vellum Bristol

  • White and colored Index

The reasons for the increases, continue to be high energy costs for oil and natural gas as well as continued closure of older, non-profitable paper mills (Domtar-Port Edwards, WI, for example) thus further shrinking inventory backlogs and tightening industry production capacity

Districts interested in saving by ordering a truckload under the current price should have their purchase order to KCDA on or before March 27, 2008.

Laminating Film

KCDA has been notified by the company who manufacturers laminating film that raw material costs have steadily increased over the last 12-18 months and are expected to continue throughout 2008.

They further site:

Specific 2007 raw material increases are as follows:

  • Oil + 58%

  • EVA plastic resin +50%

  • PET  +73%

  • LDPE + 32%

With this in mind, KCDA expects to see a pricing increase for laminating film as of May 1st, 2008.

Can Liners

Pricing is expected to remain relatively stable for low density liners, however, high density liners will be increasing as much as 20-25% overall.  Most liners sold by KCDA are low density, but members using high density are advised to plan ahead as pricing will increase mid April.
